Enjoy a trek to the top of Monkey Mountain and visit a local farm house where you can experience a traditional lunch in a mud hut formation. You can embark on a safari at the Gal Oya National Park too.
Vedda Village
This is a remote jungle village, where the original indigenous people of Sri Lanka still reside. The Veddas are descendants of the island’s original Neolithic community dating back from at least 18,000 B.C. Veddas were originally hunter-gatherers, with the women of the tribe staying at home to tend to the family. They used bows and arrows to hunt game, and also gathered wild plants and honey. The original dwellings of the Veddas consisted of caves and rock shelters. Many elaborate cave paintings have been discovered in Sri Lanka, painted mainly by the womenfolk whilst waiting for their men to return from the hunt. Joining the Veddas of Sri Lanka in their village gives visitors a unique opportunity to get a firsthand experience of the Vedda culture, which remains relatively untarnished by modern technology and commercialization.

For the intrepid ones, a 2-hour uphill trek first thing in the morning to the top of the cliffs facing the lodge is rewarded with stunning 180 degrees views over the large forested valley we are in. If you set off early enough you can watch the sun rise over the hills in the distance and observe the seemingly never ending jungle canopy below. Return for a well-earned breakfast and enjoy the view looking back up what you just climbed.
